illustrated by Mr. Boddington, who is not a man but is the name of an art studio in NYC! endpapers show the rooms of Santa's workshop on the front (with an elevator going from floor to floor), and a Holiday Log on the back with a place to record favorite presents year by year. The name of the book is 'Twas The Night Before Christmas and was given to Sarah  Christmas 2023.

Drawings are simplistic and little cartoonish, sort of like Grandma Moses' illustrations. two mice, asleep in Mouse House #1, with parents and children in their own beds. Santa flies in over colorful cities reading a long list of locations - Paris, NYC, Tokyo, etc. He carries a bag of coal with him. Elves are riding on some of the reindeer. When the sleigh lands on the rooftop, reindeer sprawl over the dormers of roofs. Santa has a "nice list" of names, and drinks coffee made in a French Press. In the stocking - PopRocks, Slime, fancy coffee, a Rolex, and tickets to the NYC Ballet. By the end of the book, Santa's on his way to Rome.

A Whitman Big Tell-a-Tale book

a city setting - looks like London or Boston. the moon on the breast of the new fallen snow shows what looks like a park with lampposts and a footbridge. three children in the family, two girls and a boy. a family dog, as big as a man, never appears in the story until Santa's in the house. Santa admires reflection in mirror as story talks about eyes how they twinkle etc. fairies fly around as the smoke encircles his head like a wreath. not sure of the artist's medium - may be chalk or pastels? given by Sarah, Christmas 2021. She took a chance that we didn't have it - and she was right!

I have a few different books by this illustrator but love these illustrations, almost more than any of the others. Tasha Tudor's house looks so cozy and homey. There's so much to look at in her illustrations. Also, there are two different styles of Santas in her books. Early ones, like the 1975 version, show a small but recognizable Santa. This version has Santa looking more like an elf or a gnome.

It has a Victorian (1822) setting; the cover looks early 50s-ish. It's missing a page: "with a little old driver so lively and quick" to "Donder & Blitzen" :-(   The gold colors on the cover are shiny metallic gold! I actually have another version of this, with the same illustrations but a very different cover. The notes inside say there's a record that goes with it.
Found by my sister during an Arizona vacation and gifted to us for Christmas 2013. Thanks, Patti!
